In cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam, the Research Department at the Competence Center for Prevention and Empowerment (an independent institution within the Central Welfare Board of Jews in Germany, ZWST) is conducting a series of studies and research projects on antisemitism.
Studies and Research projects
The research project “Discomfort with History? Dealing with the Reception History of National Socialism and Contemporary Antisemitism at Memorials and Historical Learning Sites” explores the needs and strategies for action as a response to increasingly visible antisemitism at memorials dealing with National Socialism.
The qualitative study “Antisemitism in Everyday Daily (School) Life – How Jewish Families and Young Adults Experience and Deal With It” examines how antisemitism manifests itself in schools and how it is perceived and classified by (former) students and families.
The first research project of the study series “Antisemitism in the Context of School – Interpretations and Ways of Dealing by School Teachers in Berlin (2018-2020)”was conducted by the Research Department of the Competence Centre in cooperation with the Social Pedagogy Department of the Free University Berlin under the direction of Marina Chernivsky and Dr. Friederike Lorenz and with research assistance by Johanna Schweitzer.

The ongoing research project of the study series “Antisemitism in the Context of School” (2020-2021) is being conducted in Baden-Württemberg by the Research Department of the Competence Centre in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam under the direction of Marina Chernivsky and Dr. Friederike Lorenz-Sinai and with research assistance by Johanna Schweitzer. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Family, Seniors, Women and Youth through its program “Democracy Lives!” and by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, Youth and Sport in Baden-Württemberg.

It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Family, Seniors, Women and Youth through its program “Democracy Lives!” and by the Thuringian Institute for Teacher Training, Curriculum Development and Media (ThILLM).
